सिमसा माता निःसंतान महिलाओं को गर्वभती होने का आशीर्वाद देती है मान्यताओं के अनुसार निःसंतान महिला को मंदिर के बरमान्दे में दिन रात फर्श में सोना पड़ता है। जिसके बाद से ही महिला गर्वभती हो जाती है तभी इस मंदिर को संतानदात्री भी कहा जाता है। कहा जाता है कि देवी माँ सोई हुई महिला को एक स्वप्न दिखाती है जिससे ये आभास हो जाता है कि देवी माँ उनकी आस्था से प्रसन्न है और माँ ने उस महिला की मनोकामना पूरी कर दी।
मंदिर मुख्य बैजनाथ में ही स्थित है अगर आप बैजनाथ पहुँच जाते है तो आपको इस मंदिर को ढूंढ़ने में ज़्यादा कठिनाई नहीं होगी। धर्मशाला से इस मंदिर की दुरी 45 किलोमीटर है इसलिए आपको बताना चाहेंगे अगर आप धर्मशाला घूमने जायेंगे तो ये मंदिर आप से ज़्यादा दूर नहीं रह जायेगा। और हाँ आपको बता दें आपको धर्मशाला या काँगड़ा से बैजनाथ के लिए सैकड़ों बसों बसें मिल जाएँगी यदि आप टैक्सी द्वारा धर्मशाला नहीं आये है तो बस आपको यहाँ से बड़ी आसानी से मिल जाएगी।
बात त्रेता युग की है जब रावण ने तीनों लोकों पर विजय पाने के लिए शिवजी भगवान की हिमालय में बैठ कर घोर तपस्या की थी। लंका पति ने भगवान भोलेनाथ को खुश करने के लिए अपने दस सिर काटकर भगवान को हवन में अर्पित कर दिए। लंकापति की इस घोर तपस्या से भगवान शिव जी बहुत प्रसन्न थे लेकिन कुछ देवता रावण की तपस्या को लेकर चिंतित भी थे।
कुछ दूर जाकर लंका पति रावण लघुशंका के कारण बीच रास्ते में विश्राम की इच्छा जताई। जहाँ रावण विश्राम कर रहा था वहां कुछ लोग अपनी बकरियां भी चरा रहे थे लघुशंका के कारण रावण ने शिवलिंग बकरी चराने वाले एक गड़रिये के हाथ में देकर उन्हें वहीं रुकने के लिए कहा उसी के साथ शिवलिंग को नीचे न रखने की भी नसीहत दी। लेकिन रावण ने आने में बहुत देर कर दी और उस बकरी चराने वाले ने शिवलिंग भारी होने के कारण शिवलिंग वहीं नीचे रख दिया। और वह वहीं स्थापित हो गया।
आपको बता दें बैजनाथ में दशहरे का आयोजन नहीं किया जाता। आपने कुल्लू के दशहरे के बारे में सुना होगा और आप यहाँ दशहरे के बारे भले भांति जानते भी होंगे लेकिन बैजनाथ हिमाचल का ऐसी जगह है जहाँ दशहरे का आयोजन करना खतरे से खाली नहीं है खतरे से खाली वाक्य का प्रयोग हमने इसलिए किया क्योंकि सुनने कुछ लोगों का कहना है कि यहाँ पर दशहरे का आयोजन कराने वाले की मृत्यु हो जाती है लेकिन ये सब सुनी सुनाई बाते है। हो सकता है यहाँ दशहरे न करवाने की कोई ओर वजह हो।
